Notes: Reyna Garcia is raising five children on her own. She works as a tortilla maker and the father of her children gives her some money. Three of the children are in school. Porfirio, the oldest son, doesn’t attend school because he didn’t want to. Porfirio only has a 3rd grade education. This family has lived in Santa Patricia since 1998. They used to live with her father but they left and bought here. They are a hard working family, and have a difficult time moving forward. They make 400 tortillas daily, and sell them for 1 cord each. Supplies cost 110 cords. Profits are about $10 daily. He lives in a small poor tin structure in the back of his mother’s property, which is visible in the picture. A horse and cart was purchased for Porfirio in February 2016. In August 2016 is was discovered that Porfino did’t know how to take care of his horse. BASIC sold the horse but he still has the cart. He is working a temp job at the sugar cane plantation.
