| Notes: This is a very poor family of 5 boys living in a small run down shack. The land belongs to their uncle. Ivania abandoned her children 2 years ago to live and work with a man in Chinandega. She pops in once in awhile to check on the boys, but does not provide them with food. They have no contact with their father. Jaime, the oldest boy, has currently taken on the role of parent and is the bread winner for the family. BASIC met with the uncle and Jaime, and an agreement was made to assist this family with a house if the boys were guarenteed to occupy the home until the youngest was of age. The uncle and the children met with Ivania and laid out the new family ground rules. Marbellyn is the only child with a HS education. The younger children have never been to school but Jaime is attempting to get them to attend. . During a previous interview, Marbellyn had recently returned with her husband, and was expecting a baby. Her husband is employed and hoped to buy property, and build a house for the family to live together in. Not sure if she offers any support to the boys. BASIC provided tin and posts to stablize and expand the shack, and provided them with another double bed since there as only for them them to share. |
